How to find a public restroom in Korea

When you want to go to the bathroom while get on the subway in Korea. or while walking on the street. I will show you how to find the toilet. Rest assured that there is no fee.

How to check the bathroom location on the train

Check out the subway map. Can you see the toilet emoji? If you get off the station marked with this pictogram, you can use the restroom without leaving the ticket gate. It means the toilet is inside the ticket gate. Get the picture?

But, To use a restroom at a station that does not contain an emoticon, you have to go through the ticket gate. But remember. If you use the restroom and come back within 5 minutes, tagging is not charged. 

On the street 

First, find it with the Kakao Map app (enter 'toilet' in the search bar)

Toilets near you are displayed in the app. This is toilet managed directly by the city. So it's clean and there's toilet paper. However, there may be variables, so please keep the tissue in your bag. Most these toilets are located inside parks or buildings.  

Second, Using the restroom in a cafe or restaurant

Most people go to restaurants or cafes to get tea. food, and even use the bathroom. But isn't there a time when the ends and means change? What if you need to use the bathroom, but you can't pay to eat at a cafe or restaurant? In this case, you can politely ask the restaurant owner if it is okay to use the restroom. Most restaurant staff will allow you to use the restroom. I will teach you how to express it in the 'Learning Korean' section below.

Third, use the restrooms in the shopping town or building

There are many commercial towns and buildings in Korea. In this commercial town and building, there are toilets shared by several shops and companies and shops. However most of the bathroom doors are locked. If the door is locked and you need to find out the password, you can ask the security office or the staff at a cafe, restaurant, or convenience store that manages toilets and they will tell you.
