Korean propaganda movie?

The ideological film is an ideological promotion tool for political forces. It's a media propaganda aimed at forming the legitimacy and positive public opinion of the policies pursued by the bifurcated political forces. Now it has expanded to not only movies but also YouTube media.

How propaganda films are made

The Korean Film Council is an organization under the government. The head of this group, the chairperson, is appointed by the Minister of Culture and Sports. The Minister of Culture and Sports is appointed by the President. An important factor that the president sees in appointing him is his political ideology. The president appoints a minister with same political ideology. The Minister appoints and expert in the field of film the same ideology as the chairperson of the Film Promotion Committee. They subsidize part of the government budget to filmmakers. However most of the filmmakers who receive support are those who have submitted screenplays that are not against the ideology of the regime. In other words, filmmakers who write screenplays that criticize the president and the ideology and policy stance of the president and his party(ruling party), or indirectly ridicule or criticize them, are highly unlikely to receive support.

However, civic groups help propaganda filmmakers who do not receive government funding. For reference, there are many civic group in Korea that support political parties. Civic organization have a symbiotic relationship with political parties, and civic group provide the justification for realizing the agenda of the party. For example, if a left-wing party has to legalize homosexuality as part if its political, it will have to form a positive public opinion. First, create a civic group that advocates homosexuality. Second, ask the head of a civic group to help, promising to scout from a political party in the future. Third, the head of civic group hires a film director to produce a film that makes people have a positive view on homosexuality. And he asks the film director to make a homosexuality film that gives him a positive point of view.

Directors and actors used as propaganda tools, nor for movies

NGOs often hire new film directors who dream of becoming film directors, rather than famous or well-known film directors. because they know very well that a hungry film director doesn't turn down. The film director hires a popular actor who has a positive view on homosexuality as the lead, and the rest of the supporting or minor roles cast beginner actors who want to appear in the film. In this way, directors and actors are dazzled by their propaganda filmmaking program.

Ideological films are packaged under the title of 'Art films'.

Anyone marketing and ideology is attacked by a lot of people. So they wrap it up in the name art film. In Korea, there are theaters that exclusively screen short films and art films. However, those who have seen the films here know well that the screens are dominated by films that promote ideology rather than those of artistic value. Ideology films are called art films. So you should contemplate watching a movie at a Korean art movie theater.

March to May is the Ideology Film Festival Season

It is a metaphorical expression. Like festivals, many ideological films are released in art theaters and commercial movie theaters. And most of these films are based on or take place in historical events in Korea that took place between March and May. Also, from March to May in Korea, presidential elections, parliamentary elections, and local government head elections are held. So, as more art films are made, the number of left-leaning artists, film directors and actors also increases.

The big picture of propaganda movie

The goal of the Koreans propaganda film is to keep South Korea away from the liberal democracy of the United States, create conflict with Japan and establish a pro-North Korans government in South Korea to promote policies and projects that meet the demands of North Korea and China. Those who make and distribute these films in Korea are part of the left-wing forces, and the tone of Korean Propaganda films is in line with that of the left-wing forces. For reference, propaganda films produced by left-wing parties in South Korea were popular in the 1970s and 1990s. However, most of Korean propaganda film are currently operated and controlled by the left.
